Spokesperson for Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva has answered a media question regarding visit of the “representative” of the so-called entity created in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan to the US.
“The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the USA expressed serious protest to the Department of State concerning the entry of Masis Mayilian, a representative of the illegal regime created in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia, into the US territory. The Embassy addressed letters to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, as well as to its senior officials and chairs of several Committees. At the same time, protest has been expressed to the American co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Leyla Abdullayeva said.
“It was raised in front of the US officials that while the representative of the illegal entity has misinformed in his visa application, the US side overlooked it and such an approach contradicting the general policy of the US is regrettable.”
“The US side stated that Mayilian's visit is of personal nature and that the Administration doesn’t support him, as well as he wouldn’t be accepted by any Administration official. It was emphasized that the US policy of not recognizing the separatist regime remains unchanged.
We would like to note that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the USA will send a note of protest on that regard to the Department of State. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will present its protest to the Embassy of the United States in Baku,” she added.
