On October 5, the foreign cargo ship "Royad Mammadov" was subjected to a drone attack in the Black Sea near the coast of Romania, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The ministry noted that, as a result of the attack, the ship's captain, Azerbaijani citizen Rustam Ismail oglu Hasanov (born in 1974), was killed. Another Azerbaijani citizen, Mahammad Hamza oglu Suleymanzade (born in 2002), went missing, and search operations are currently underway.
“Other Azerbaijani citizens among the ship’s crew were rescued, three of whom have been hospitalized.
In this regard, coordination efforts are being carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly with our country’s diplomatic missions and competent authorities of the relevant countries.
Necessary measures are being taken to provide our citizens with the required medical and consular support, as well as to carry out appropriate procedures for the repatriation of the bodies of our deceased citizens.
We express our deepest condolences to the families and relatives of our deceased compatriots and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
Once again, we urge citizens of Azerbaijan to refrain from traveling to regions where military operations are ongoing and the security situation is unstable, as well as from engaging in labor activities in these areas or on transport vehicles traveling along risky routes, especially ships,” the Foreign Ministry added.
