The seminar, which brought together parliamentarians from NATO member states and partner countries, senior officials, representatives of international organizations, addressed the ongoing conflicts in the South Caucasus and threats they pose to security of Europe and Asia.
Speaking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Armenian representative Benyamin Pogosyan proposed a compromise on the problem, provoking immediate response from the Azerbaijani delegation.
Azerbaijani MP Malahat Ibrahimgizi, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO PA, gave detailed information on the history and causes of the conflict. She noted that the Armenian armed forces continue to occupy 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory. “Today, drugs are illicitly cultivated and terrorists are trained on these occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and they continue to perpetrate bloody terrorist attacks and other crimes in many countries around the world. The world community should not forget this fact,” said the MP.
She stressed that the occupation must stop and necessary measures must be taken against the occupying country. “All international organizations must demand the execution of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict from Armenia," she added. MP Kamran Bayramov said that Azerbaijan is a peaceful country that is always ready for compromise. He also stressed that the Azerbaijani state and the Azerbaijani people will never make a concession until its territories are liberated from the Armenian occupation.
