“For nearly three decades, Azerbaijan has been awaiting clarification on the fate of thousands of missing persons, whose families continue to seek answers,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told journalists in Khankendi.
Hikmet Hajiyev emphasized that during the period of occupation, thousands of Azerbaijani citizens were captured or taken hostage as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, with no information available to date regarding their fate. He noted that the fate of approximately 4,000 missing persons remains unknown, the majority of whom are civilians.
The Presidential Assistant added that, although the International Committee of the Red Cross gathered some information during this period, it was unable to fully complete its work in line with its mandate.
“We have made requests to Armenia through various channels, including through their civil society representatives. Families are still awaiting information about their children,” he underscored.
