“A fabricated statement that does not reflect reality, created using deepfake technology and falsely attributed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been circulated on several accounts on the social networking platform Facebook.
This instance of disinformation, generated with the help of artificial intelligence and aimed at misleading public opinion, seeks to obtain citizens’ personal data and cause financial harm,” the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan (MEDIA) said in a statement.
“It should be noted that cases of cyber fraud involving similar content have been increasingly observed on the Facebook platform in recent times.
In this regard, we call on Meta, the owner of the Facebook platform, to take prompt measures to remove this harmful content.
We also urge the public to rely solely on information provided by official sources and call on journalists and public activists to uphold a principled stance against such incidents and remain vigilant in an environment where fake and false information campaigns and deepfake content are becoming increasingly widespread,” the agency added.
