Participants of the special session of the 9th meeting of heads of diplomatic service bodies, held in Khankendi under the theme “Azerbaijan’s Foreign Policy After the Restoration of Sovereignty: Priorities and Challenges”, visited the city of Shusha.

The delegation first toured the city’s first residential complex. Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, provided an overview of the project. The foundation of the complex was laid on August 29, 2021, and it was inaugurated on May 10, 2024. A total of 376 former IDPs have been resettled in the complex.

The delegation then proceeded to the Merdinli neighborhood, one of Shusha’s 17 historic districts. Constructed in the late 18th to early 19th century, the area - like other parts of the city - suffered extensive damage as a result of Armenian vandalism.

Participants also visited notable historical and religious sites, including the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque, built in 1874–1875 by architect Karbalayi Safikhan Karabakhi, and the “Shirin Su” bathhouse, dating back to the 19th century.

The group was briefed on the ongoing construction along Garabagh Street and concluded the tour by enjoying the panoramic view from the Jidir Duzu Plain.
