“After another political crisis in the Kingdom of Belgium, which has been going on for seven months, a group of political parties signed a coalition agreement on February 1, 2025 and formed a new government. The agreement contains unconstructive and discriminatory provisions against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis,” the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement.

“The coalition agreement attempts to undermine the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan by using expressions such as “Nagorno-Karabakh”. In addition, the agreement raises the issue of creating conditions for the return of Armenians who have emigrated from Azerbaijan. However, not a single word is mentioned about the return of Azerbaijanis who were forcibly expelled from Armenia. This is discrimination on ethnic and religious grounds by the Belgian government against Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia.

Instead of including such issues that do not concern their country in the coalition agreement and demonstrating an approach that is discriminatory and contrary to international law, it would be more correct for Belgian political parties to deal with the political system of Belgium, which is in chronic crisis.

We call on the newly formed Belgian government to end ethnic and religious discrimination against Azerbaijanis, to refrain from steps that hinder peace in the region, and to respect the right of return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia,” the Community added.
