“Despite the support of the majority of member states and calls for the use of the “Aghdam-Khankendi” road proposed by Azerbaijan in order to eliminate the current claims about the “humanitarian situation” in the region, the Armenian Prime Minister’s refusal to accept the use of this road indicates Armenia’s intention to further aggravate the situation in the region.
Furthermore, as the majority of the members of the UN Security Council have emphasized, despite the importance of respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity both in word and in deed in order to establish peace and stability in the region, it is concerning that the Armenian side is exhibiting a destructive position by repeating different pretexts such as “humanitarian situation in the region” and a “blockade.”
At the same time, the fact that the member states noted that it is necessary to take into account the legitimate security concerns of Azerbaijan reminds us once again that it is important to unite efforts in the direction of solving these concerns.
Armenia’s resistance to the reintegration policy of Azerbaijan with regard to the Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister's allegations that Azerbaijan opened a fire against Armenian residents and accusing Azerbaijan of “ethnic cleansing” indicates to the fact that Armenian leadership still does not correctly assess the realities in the region.
The Armenian side should understand that the way to ensure peace and stability in the region is not to raise the issue in the UN Security Council with baseless claims, but to establish relations with neighboring countries based on the confirmation and respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and direct constructive negotiations with Azerbaijan to establish peace,” the ministry added.
