At a briefing on Monday, the head of the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizade, revealed the details of an armed attack on Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Iran. According to him, during the terrorist act at the Azerbaijani embassy, an Iranian police car drove up to the building of the diplomatic mission, but then drove off. Video footage of this has also been released.

The diplomat believes that the Azerbaijani side should be allowed to participate in the investigation conducted by the Iranian special services, which, in turn, should be transparent and objective.

“Details suggest that forces behind the terrorist attack were preparing it in order to destroy Iranian-Azerbaijani relations. Correct steps by the Iranian side should not allow the current situation to slide into a precipice,” he stressed, adding that the termination of the activities of the embassy of one country in another actually means the interruption of normal interstate relations.

Describing the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran as an unprecedented event in the history of Azerbaijani diplomacy, he expressed hope that the Iranian side would show its desire to maintain stability in the region.
