The fact that Karabakh has always been Azerbaijani land, the purposeful resettlement of Armenians in these territories about 200 years ago in the early 19th century, are confirmed by many historical documents. The Kurakchay treaty on the transfer of Karabakh and Shaki khanates under the power of Russia, is one of such archival documents. The treaty was signed on May 14, 1805 by the Khan of Karabakh and Shusha, Ibrahimkhalil khan and general of Tsarist Russia Pavel Tsitsianov.
As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly emphasized, there is not a word about the Armenian people in the Kurakchay treaty. The Armenians were resettled in Karabakh, one of the most fascinating corners of Azerbaijan, after the Kurakchay, Gulustan and Turkmenchay peace treaties.
