"Russia is ready to promote the ongoing work between Yerevan and Baku to create conditions for signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We spoke substantively about how we can help our neighbors to launch this process," he said.
He said that the situation in the South Caucasus was the focus of his talks with his Armenian counterpart. "We stressed the importance of strict observance of the agreements between the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian leaders of November 9, 2020 and January 11 and January 26, 2021," he said. "We reiterated the importance of the Russian peacekeeping contingent’s implementation of its mandate. We touched upon the issues that were discussed by our leaders, including the establishment of a commission on delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and further steps to build up trust and stability in the border areas. As you know, a principled agreement was reached on this matter in Sochi last November and the three leaders announced it at a news conference."
"We hope such a commission will be set up soon, at least, we see no obstacles on this path," he noted, adding that it is necessary to continue efforts to resolve humanitarian problems, to resume meetings of the trilateral working group which is tasked to agree parameters of the resumption of transport and economic ties. "We learnt today that a regular meeting of this trilateral group at the level of deputy prime ministers will be held this month," he said.
Apart from that, According to Lavrov, Russia welcomes the process of the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara. "It will help improve the situation in our entire region in general," he stressed.
